De Zwaan looking forward to returning home after World Championship defeat: "I haven't seen my girlfriend for about five weeks"

Jeffrey de Zwaan lost out in his PDC World Darts Championship opener on Sunday night to Ryan Searle in straight sets despite impressing on scoring in particular against 'Heavy Metal'.

But for De Zwaan, he was making no excuses after the match and believes that Searle was the rightful winner and that he is looking forward to returning home to the Netherlands especially to see his girlfriend and spend time with her over Christmas.

"Of course you start thinking about what you are doing wrong. The conclusion is clear, I just missed too many doubles and was not constant enough. In some legs I was completely absent and he also did not let me into the game because he was so good on his doubles ", said De Zwaan to RTL 7.

"I'm going home as soon as possible because I haven't seen my girlfriend for about five weeks", De Zwaan continues. "She works in healthcare and therefore comes into contact with covid patients there, which means she has to be extra careful. So we were forced to live apart for a while in preparation for the World Championship. I'm very much looking forward to seeing her again. "
