Cameron Menzies put up one of his best performances on the European Tour stage to smash former world champion Rob Cross 6-4 with a 108.41 average at the
Baltic Sea Darts Open.
'Cammy' pinned six 180s and took out
the 170 in a fabulous display of darts. His doubling, which had cost him in prior matches, was up at a respectable 40% while missed doubles cost Cross any chance of keeping tabs with an inspired Menzies. This has set up a hugely intriguing second round test against Stephen Bunting, something that the Scot will be pumped up for.
Battling nerves to get over the line
After the match, he could not believe the performance he produced in
Kiel. "Did I use four darts? Six darts? Ten darts? I don’t know. Was it? Are you sure? I’ll get six darts in my case. I just threw very fast—you didn’t see it," he joked.
"Well, I’ll be honest with you, I felt good in that game. Rob, it was... I got nervous near the end when I threw two darts at double six to win it. The first one was on the wire—well, maybe a wee bit outside the wire. The next one hurt.
"I was like, 'Rob is playing well here, just try and kill it.' I was thinking, “Hold your throw, hold your throw.” Then I broke his throw to win it."
He admitted it was his best game in 2026 as he overcame the nerves to blast into round two. "But Rob is coming back, and he pushed me. That’s the best game I’ve played this year. That’s the best game I’ve played in a long time. I felt good. Yes, I was nervous, but I felt on top of it.
He was very pleased about the support he got in a very hot Germany. "The crowd was amazing, as always in Germany, especially in Kiel. Lovely place. Apart from the weather—it’s like Scotland: sunny and thunder and lightning on the same day. What the hell? But wow, I needed that one."
Menzies unveiled that he almost skipped this event amid a very busy schedule. Turns out that was a bullet missed. "My manager texted me and stuff—I was maybe going to miss this weekend because last weekend... I’m basically so busy over the next few weeks," he explained. "But that makes it all worthwhile. I’m going to go home, and I’ve got some currywurst in the fridge, so I’m going to smash that tonight."

Moving on from brilliant but disappointing outing in Riesa
Menzies reached a first ever European Tour semi-final last week. Wins against Josh Rock and James Wade from 4-0 deficits were the highlights before being smashed to pieces by eventual winner Ross Smith 7-0.
"Obviously, me and Ross go back donkey’s years, so after that I gave him a darts shirt for his sister. I said, 'Just make sure you tell her you gave me a doughnut with that'," he laughed.
"I was gutted, but at the same time ecstatic, because it’s not been a good year. It’s such a weird feeling—being so high up there and then an hour later feeling so low. I was gutted to lose—not gutted to lose, but gutted to lose 7–0. That kind of hurt a little bit. I’m sure if you saw me, I was a bit upset after that. But it gave me the confidence we needed after a poor start to the season. I’m trying to get a suntan at the same time."
