The
Baltic Sea Darts Open continued on Saturday afternoon with the top seeds coming to the fore. The highlights included Wessel Nijman, Gurney v Evans and Chisnall v Cullen.
The main story of the session perhaps was the
false alarm in the tie between Woodhouse and Gilding which supposedly was down to someone smoking in the toilets. The fire brigade as is precaution were still called but it was one that saw the session halted for half an hour.
Woodhouse went 4-1 up early as he was taking the game to Gilding. Woodhouse went 2-0 up with a break pinning 92. He hit double seven to hold before double eight for 4-1.
A 12-darter to hit double 16 for 5-1 for Woodhouse saw him head towards the win before disaster of sorts struck as the false alarm occurred albeit after a protracted interval, it was Woodhouse who returned to finally win 6-3. He hit double 10 for it.
That was second up after Wessel Nijman easily motored past Krzysztof Ratajski. He won 6-1 against him in one of the best displays of the afternoon session. A 54 checkout, double 16 and double four for Nijman to claim a break and the lead early as he went 3-0 up.
An incredible 146 checkout from Nijman saw him continue that as he led 4-0 and was already two away from the finish already. Nijman was one away with Ratajski finally getting on the board but he sealed the win from there. Double four for Nijman after Ratajski missed 72 and the Dutchman had the win.
Van Schie, Evans shine
Other victors included Jimmy van Schie who eased through against Mike de Decker 6-1. De Decker levelled early but Van Schie was immediately at it hitting double 18 to go 3-1 up and break the Belgian. He held for 4-1 before hitting double 18 for a 5-1 lead. A 76 checkout from Van Schie saw him claim it in a 6-1 win.
Also victories for Ricky Evans and Damon Heta over Daryl Gurney and Karel Sedlacek. Evans held early over Gurney with a 54 checkout to go 2-1 up. A break and a 12-darter for Evans who hit a 121 checkout on the bull to go 3-1 up. Gurney broke back on double five to make it 3-2 down but Evans broke for 5-3 with a 114 checkout and sealed the deal on double 20.
While Sedlacek took an early lead over Heta but it didn't particularly stick. He pinned 126 to break for 4-4 and won three legs in a row from there further with double 16 to win.
Ryan Searle is also through after downing Dirk van Duijvenbode albeit it was more of a protracted process with breaks galore. A break early for Searle but it has been cancelled out with 'Heavy Metal' pinning double 12 for 2-2.
Searle broke again for 3-2 on double 20 and finally looked to hold but he didn't as Van Duijvenbode pinned 32. Searle missed 167 for a hold. Searle broke again taking out 15 for 4-3 but it was another break albeit Searle finally got over the line. He broke again with a 61 checkout and finally held on double 20 for 6-4.
Justin Hood also produced an epic end to the session easing past Jermaine Wattimena with a 99 average emphatically 6-1. He breezed into a 3-0 lead hitting two 180's in one leg but couldn't hit a nine-darter.
Wattimena finally got on the board but Hood went 4-1 up with Wattimena way back and he broke again with Wattimena missing chances to hold. Wattimena got one chance at 127 but Hood hit double eight to seal it.
