Over eighty Tour Card holders take a shot at qualifying for the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Thursday afternoon. This is the twelfth Euro Tour tournament of the year and will be held in Budapest from August 19-21.
The top-16 of the world rankings and the top-16 of the cleaned Pro Tour rankings have already received invitations to the Hungarian Darts Trophy. The entire top-16 of the PDC Order of Merit has accepted the invitation, meaning top players such as Luke Humphries, Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Josh Rock and Gary Anderson will all be present in the Hungarian capital.
This
draw offers a few standout ties, headlined by
Jose de Sousa vs
William Borland. De Sousa’s form has wavered, but his scoring power remains lethal. Borland, famous for his World Championship nine-darter, brings flair and fearlessness — this one promises fireworks.
Rusty-Jake Rodriguez vs William O’Connor is another compelling clash. Rodriguez’s raw talent faces a tough test against O’Connor’s experience and consistency.
Gabriel Clemens takes on Owen Bates in what could be a potential upset if the young Englishman finds his rhythm early. Also worth noting:
Christian Kist vs
Niko Springer — a battle between a former world champion and a fast-rising German talent, with plenty of edge.
Dimitri Van den Bergh vs
Connor Scutt is quietly one of the most intriguing ties in the draw. Van den Bergh, a World Matchplay champion and Premier League regular, brings pedigree and experience. But his form in floor events has been patchy, and he can be vulnerable early on. Connor Scutt, meanwhile, is an emerging player who’s been steadily improving on the ProTour. He’s capable of mixing it with top opposition and won't be intimidated by the occasion. If Van den Bergh isn’t switched on from the start, Scutt has the game to punish him.
