Glen Durrant has continued his love affair thus far with the World Matchplay and is through to the Quarter-Finals for the second successive year after seeing off Peter Wright 11-8 in a thrilling win.
It was the three-time Lakeside World Champion against the current PDC World Champion and Wright is the latest big name to fall this time at the hands of Durrant.
Wright himself had the match at his fingertips in the early going with a 4-1 lead despite 11 missed darts at doubles as he looked to streak ahead from the Premier League leader.
Despite that though Durrant can always flip the game with some clutch finishing and he did just that hitting a 99 checkout for an 11-darter to go 4-2 behind and from there, four consecutive legs were won including a 108 checkout and a 104 to go 5-4 ahead.
At the next break, it was suddenly 6-4 to Durrant as he looked good at the halfway stage. A break saw him 7-4 ahead but this is where Wright began his fightback.
He broke back straight away and hit an 86 checkout on the bull and a 121 on the bull to level at 7-7. He hit the front from there in this back and forth clash but after missing a dart at tops, this proved to be the pivotal moment as Durrant stepped in to make it 8-8.
There was a roar as Durrant went 9-8 up and a three leg salvo from the Middlesbrough ace saw him win through in an 11-8 win and dispel the charge of 'Snakebite'.
