Evans emphatic in White win, Brown denies debutant Walpen and Kleermaker edges past Soutar

The first round continues at the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen and for Ricky Evans, it was his best display in a while on the European Tour as he dumped out Ian White.

Evans will face Gerwyn Price who is set for his return to the European Tour tomorrow night after missing the past few tournaments and also fresh off defeat in the Premier League Darts final likely wanting to prove a point.

But for 'Rapid', he showed that he can certainly trouble 'The Iceman' tomorrow night. He posted an average just shy of a ton as he saw off White 6-3. This featured six 180's and also a clinical doubling display.

Featuring three ton plus checkouts including a 154 and an overall doubling percentage of 46.2%, it has only been bettered by Krzysztof Ratajski today.

While in the requisite match, Keegan Brown set up a clash with Josh Rock tomorrow afternoon after 'The Needle' saw off Marcel Walpen.

It was a scrappy affair with both averaging in the mid 70's throughout the tie, Walpen making his debut on the European Tour certainly had nerves but grew into the game.

Despite going 5-1 down, he made it interesting towards the end with the scoreline ending 6-3. He will now take his spot in the Swiss World Cup of Darts team alongside Stefan Bellmont in a few weeks time.

An initial qualifier was set for today but with Walpen reaching the latter stages of a Challenge Tour, he is on the Order of Merit so will join Bellmont.

Martijn Kleermaker also impressed to conclude the session with 'The Dutch Giant' seeing off Alan Soutar with a 98 average 6-4 in the end. He produced three 180's and a high checkout of 152. He returns tomorrow to face Rob Cross.
