"Everyone can make a mistake sometimes" - Wesley Plaisier reflects on remarkable moment during Gibraltar Darts Trophy 2022

Wesley Plaisier currently does not have a PDC Tour Card although he was still close to qualifying for the European Championship in 2022.

Plaisier had just won over Dave Chisnall in the second round of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy 2022, when master of ceremonies Philip Brezinski announced that the Dutchman had qualified for the European Championship. Nothing could be further from the truth, however. "When I went from the stage to the throw-in area, Brezinski immediately came and told me that I wasn't in after all," Plaisier reflected to 'Double Top' on this curious incident.

"He said Mark Webster had said this during the live commentary on television and he had copied this," Plaisier continued. "Oh well, I wasn't mad at him, everyone can make a mistake sometimes. But it did make me go into my next match against Luke Humphries with extra pressure. If I won that one, qualification was a given."

Plaisier eventually lost 6-3 to Humphries. "However, I played a good match, but of course it was not against the least that I had to play. I would have liked to have played at the EC, but postponement is definitely not a reprieve."
