Gutted to end my weekend early. Time now to reset and come back stronger.
The German Darts Grand Prix ended in a major disappointment for James Wade. 'The Machine' went down 6-3 in his opening match against Daryl Gurney.
Wade is still disappointed a week later. "I am livid with myself at the manner of my exit from the European Tour event in Germany last weekend," he said. "I played Daryl Gurney in the first round and got off to a steady start. There are no excuses for this, but sometimes my concentration and focus aren’t there – and that was the case in the next few legs."
"Some things got to me that I shouldn’t have let get to me and, before I knew it, I was packing up my darts and heading back to the hotel. It is hard to leave your family at times of celebration. Easter is a great time to spend with the kids," Wade continues. "It makes it even worse when you make a sacrifice like that and you don’t do yourself justice. On the plus side, it still hurts, which means I still have that competitive edge."
Finally, Wade is full of praise for Luke Humphries. "I’ve been talking up Luke Humphries for a long time and he did not disappoint in Germany. It was a lethal display (beating Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final) and there is no doubt that if he continues to play like that, he goes into every event as the favourite."
