Nathan Aspinall did not show his most diplomatic side during his quarterfinal match at Players Championship 13. The Englishman, who eventually defeated Martin Lukeman with a convincing 6-2 victory, voiced strong criticism of the state of the dartboard during the fourth leg.
After three legs played, "The Asp" was leading 2-1 and was allowed to start the fourth leg. His first arrow landed in the triple 20, but Aspinall immediately looked at the board with disapproval and verbally let himself go.
"These boards are f*cking wank," Aspinall bellowed audibly as he continued his turn. The Englishman seemed unhappy with the way his arrow was in the dartboard. Sometimes the sisal of one can be harder or softer than players are used to. Depending on how players throw and with what material, this causes the dart to line up a little differently in the board.
There is a real chance that Aspinall could face a fine from the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA). The DRA oversees rules of conduct within professional darts and is known for its strict enforcement in cases of inappropriate language or disrespectful behavior toward officials and opponents, or bringing the sport into disrepute. The PDC has made no official comment as of yet about possible disciplinary proceedings, but it is not unusual for such statements to result in a financial penalty.
