Gary Anderson back with a bang after time off, seals second Players Championship title of 2024 at Event 22

Gary Anderson had not played since the Players Championship double header at the start of August where he lost to Joe Cullen and Adam Warner. But on his return, he sealed his second ProTour of the year defeating Connor Scutt 8-4 in an entertaining final.

Anderson admitted post final that he wasn't expecting much and came to the ProTour to catch-up with Ian White and his mates he sits with. But he soon found himself back in the high averages that have seen him return to some of his best. A superb sight as ever and a vintage 'Flying Scotsman' day to start this double header in Leicester.

He watched on with awe at times against Scutt who was superb all day. But it was experience that won the day as the two-time World Champion emerged victorious.

Scutt secured the early impetus and a break to start the tie going 1-0 up. He missed 90 on double five for 2-0 but Anderson missed three to break back.

Scutt busted twice though as Anderson was given handfuls of opportunities to break back and he finally took it on double four at 1-1. Scutt hit 120 on double 20 for 2-1 to break back and he was throwing for 3-1.

Scutt missed 170 for 3-1 and Anderson hit back with a 72 checkout for 2-2. The former missed it again and Anderson hit the same checkout on double 12 for 3-2.

He hit a 56 checkout to go 4-2 up and Scutt didn't realise he'd been broke throwing his first dart to be corrected. Anderson with a smile went to the board from there to throw for a 5-2 lead.

Anderson missed 146 for it and Scutt replied with a 104 checkout for 4-3 down. He was throwing for parity. But he didn't get it as Anderson broke back for 5-3.

Anderson missed 121 for 6-3 and Scutt missed 170 again for a third time. He was made to pay as Anderson went two away. Scutt missed the eighth dart for a nine-dart attempt and 'The Sniper' zoned in on an 11-darter for 6-4 down.

Anderson zipped in another leg going 7-4 up on double four. He hit a 180 to get first to a finish on the Scutt throw and produced a flourish to complete the 121 feat on bull.
