Zehra Gemi is certainly one to watch in the future and becomes the first ever Turkish World Champion making history in defeating Irish ace
Rebecca Allen in the
WDF World Championship girls final on Sunday.
Gemi dethroned Paige Pauling last round and returned to face Allen who saw off Ruby Grey yesterday and she lost just two legs all final in a dominant display in what was the highest girls average ever on the
Lakeside stage in the form of 77.07.
As we have seen this week with Mitchell Lawrie, the gulf isn't that vast between the two and so Gemi could soon be one to watch in the main tournament next year.
Gemi continued off where she left her semi-final against Paige Pauling in leading from the front as the Turk wrapped up the opening set 3-1. She lost the opening leg but despite busting her shot, she managed to hold on double 16 and broke after hitting 140, 121, 140 and double 10 en route to an 18-darter. The last leg of the opening set was also an 18-darter.
She produced steady tons en route to the set with three in a row and hit 119 missing 143 but returned for double 12 with Allen not producing any kind of resolve on the Gemi throw.
Onto set two and despite it being a 21-darter, it was a 74 checkout which saw Gemi take the opening leg. Allen returned with Gemi waiting to get a chance to break and Allen took the leg to make it 1-1.
Gemi had to chase around the houses to seal her throw but Allen didn't put her under much pressure and she fell over the line in the end to hold before doing so again in the decider despite missing set darts prior. Her scoring went up a tick on her own throw and she managed to seal the second set.
On return from the break, the power scoring again was in full evidence as she broke the Allen throw to go 1-0 up. She hit 140, 100, 140, 97 not able to get a shot at 121 and it could've been an even better leg had the doubles not gone awry. But she managed to break to lead 1-0.
This proved to be the kick to turn on the afterburners as he took down a 17-darter with an 86 checkout to hold and then sealed the title on double 20 with a 16-darter averaging 93 in the leg to claim the title emphatically. The future is certainly bright with this one.
