Gary Anderson beat
Chris Dobey in the fifth round of the
UK Open. The 2018 champion downed 'Hollywood' 10-5 in a low standard game between the pair by their standards. Dobey missed 15 darts at double altogether, missing an opportunity to take a huge scalp.
Anderson has been one of the hottest players on the ProTour in 2024, winning Players Championship 2 and hitting double digits for ton plus averages for the year already.
The biggest shock of the day so far came when
Luke Woodhouse defeated
Michael Smith in a last-leg decider. 'Woody' did well to come from 4-1 down, then battle his way to a final leg where he checked out 81 with Smith waiting on 120.
Woodhouse's form is trending in the right direction, with a quarter final appearance in his last Minehead appearance at the Players Championship Finals.
Rob Cross turned on the style in taking care of
Josh Rock. 'Voltage' won 10-4 against the rising star, averaging 105 and having a 52% success rate on doubles. Cross achieved similar stats in the Premier League in Exeter a few days ago, where he reached his first final of the 2024 edition.
Elsewhere,
Martin Lukeman scraped through
Danny Noppert in a final leg tussle in a high-quality affair. Noppert has now dropped out of the top 10 in the world after failing to defend a chunk of his prize money from winning the competition two years ago.
