Wherever you go in the UK, whether on national news or the newspapers in recent weeks,
Luke Littler has either been interviewed or has been a topic of conversation and one player who is not a fan of the constant media hype is
Gary Anderson.
Anderson saw off Boris Krcmar 4-1 in a superb display from 'The Flying Scotsman' who could yet face Luke Littler in the Quarter-Finals. But he believes that the media just need to calm down surrounding the 16-year-old. As well as all of the worldwide publicity has also come the criticism with Littler being on The Sun holding a kebab and a copy of the newspaper which came under scrutiny and saw him issue an apology.
The Scot also compared him to Josh Rock who last World Championship was the player up in the betting odds and seen as a potential World Champion in the making and despite good form in 2023 has failed to hit the heights since. Littler returns on Saturday evening with Raymond van Barneveld taking him on as the eyes of the darting world will be on the next chapter, but for Anderson at least, he sees a calming is needed.
“Let the boy play darts. I’ve been downstairs today and he’s had cameras, Zoom calls, Sky, let the boy play darts. He’s had a great two minutes, he’s played well, what happens if it all goes Pete Tong now? Well you boys have ruined that haven't you? Let the boy play darts, he’s 16 years old and playing well, just like Josh Rock. Fantastic player, but you have knocked him back about two to three years.”
