Leonard Gates denied Danny Lauby Jr a hat-trick of titles on the opening weekend of CDC Tour action which took place in Tampa, Florida between July 9-11.
Lauby Jnr added to his opening triumph by defeating Nick Linberg (6-4), Chuck Puleo (6-3) and finally Gary Mawson (6-1) with an 87 average who had previously got past Gates and Chris Lim.
But Gates got revenge with a 6-0 victory over Gary Mawson followed by seeing off Jeff Springer 6-4 and finally a last leg decider win over Lauby Jnr with an 87 average as he was denied a hat-trick.
It was the first of two treble header weekends which will finish with an Order of Merit winner who will then qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship.
This second weekend is set for September 17-19, with tournaments reserved in Canada on August 13-15 and October 22-24 which will be confirmed in due course.
