The
German Darts Grand Prix continued on Sunday afternoon in Munich. Dave Chisnall v Michael Smith, De Decker v Van Duijvenbode, Daryl Gurney, Ryan Searle among others in action as Easter Sunday took in the first part of a double quota of darting action.
It was the St Helens derby that headlined the session as Michael Smith faced off with his fellow St Helens ace in Dave Chisnall in a bid to reach the final day at the
German Darts Grand Prix.
Smith won the match in another decider in a session that saw five out of the eight matches go the entire distance. Chisnall led early going 2-0 up after breaking immediately.
Smith broke back hitting double 10 for 2-2 and holding that break so he sat at 3-3 with Chisnall. A sublime 136 from Smith saw him go 4-3 up. Smith went one away but again we went to a decider as Chisnall threw it out and Smith pinned double 20 in the end to seal the win and move through.
It was an afternoon of deciding legs prior to that as four matches in a row all went the entire distance in Munich.
Dirk van Duijvenbode edged a quality decider against Mike de Decker. Two polar opposites in terms of their walk-ons as the PDC put themselves with the frenetic Dirk affair giving the fans real chance to rave like a German disco.
While De Decker also brings out the fan favourite Bob Marley number. So something to go on for both but fans will see Van Duijvenbode again over De Decker.
Van Duijvenbode took an early break pinning a 12-darter on double sixteen and he was in the ascendancy as he posted double 16 for a 48 checkout and he was 3-1 up as a result.
Van Duijvenbode went 4-2 up still holding that break but De Decker was back to within one at 4-3 down. De Decker claimed that vital break back with an 84 checkout. But ironically, Van Duijvenbode broke to then win. He pinned double 10 to make it 6-5.
Noppert through with issues against Edhouse as Gilding edges close decider with Gurney
Danny Noppert also had some issues getting through. He pinned a 90 checkout to hold and go 1-0 up on Ritchie Edhouse. Noppert was halfway to the finish early though hitting a 48 and 62 checkout for 3-0 but while he managed to go 4-1 up even from there, Edhouse suddenly broke back with Noppert unable to hold with the chances on offer so 'Madhouse' pinned double eight for 4-3 down.
Noppert broke back on double 20 to go 5-3 up and was one away. But Edhouse took it all the way with an 84 checkout before finally being beaten by Noppert.
Danny Noppert moves through in Munich.
Krzysztof Ratajski v Ryan Searle prior to that was a game of two halves as the old football adage goes as the first half was all breaks as Ratajski went 3-2 up but the second half was all holds as 'The Polish Eagle' soared to a 6-5 win.
Daryl Gurney v Andrew Gilding also gleamed (you guessed it) a decider as 'Goldfinger' edged through. Gurney broke the earlier of the two hitting double 14 to go 3-2 up and broke back after Gilding held the lead.
Gurney held for 4-2 pinning double eight to continue to head into the ascendancy. But it flipped as Gilding hit back pinning 124 on the bull for 4-4 and was throwing to go one away. Gilding was one away but it got sent to a decider in which he pinned 104 to claim it.
Smith ends Kovacs fairytale as Heta beaten by Sedlacek
Other wins came from Ross Smith who opened the session ending the fairytale of Patrik Kovacs who saw off Joe Cullen who let his frustrations certainly be known on social media afterwards.
While Niels Zonneveld continued his demon form by thrashing Jermaine Wattimena who was suspect on the outer ring and was well beaten 6-1. Finally Karel Sedlacek managed to sweep aside Damon Heta 6-2 as 'The Heat' felt the wrath of 'Evil Charlie' in Munich.
