Germany not at their best but through in doubles decider against Japan at World Cup of Darts

Germany will face England in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 World Cup of Darts despite not being at their best after the first pairs decider of this year's tournament claiming a 2-1 success in the end.

In the opening tie, Gabriel Clemens took on Jun Matsuda with the German surging into a 2-0 lead.

Jun claimed a hold with a 118 checkout as he looked to force himself into the tie and he did so with a break of throw to make it 2-2.

Multiple chances arose for Jun to hold throw and this allowed Clemens to break back and make it 3-2 going one away suddenly.

This chance returned but he missed one at double 20 and Clemens secured the win on double eight.

It was all up to Yoshihisa Baba facing off against Max Hopp to send proceedings to the first pairs decider of the day.

Both struggled to get away and Baba after multiple break opportunities sealed the opening leg.

He continued to grow in confidence from there and produced a 108, 125 and 76 checkout in a row to whitewash Hopp and force the pairs match.

To begin the pairs decider, Baba produced a brilliant 177 to leave his partner double 18 to hold throw.

Jun pressured with a 180 after a poor leg from Japan and Baba was given a chance at 71 but he couldn't set up a shot. Clemens returned to make it 1-1.

Japan missed the chance to hold and Germany punished to move 2-1 up and break. Five more missed attempts at doubles from Japan and Hopp produced to go one away at 3-1 up.

Hopp squandered two match darts and Jun found a reprieve to make it 3-2 but it was none more so as Germany sealed the deal.
