Gian van Veen claims first PDC ranking title at Players Championship 6, avenges Tuesday final misery with Luke Humphries win

Gian van Veen is a PDC ranking event winner for the first time after seeing off Luke Humphries on Wednesday at Players Championship 6 in a comfortable 8-3 win.
Van Veen reached the final yesterday and missed multiple match darts in losing out to Joe Cullen in a miserable end to the day for the Dutchman but he bounced back in style to finally get his first PDC title. A player who many feel should be alongside Littler as the future of darts and he showed today that he should be in the conversation going forward.
To start the tie, Van Veen could get the first bull on the 125 but missed outside only to return anyway with Humphries continuing a sketchy start on the doubles allowing the Dutchman to hold.
Humphries missed three darts at double 19 for a hold and Van Veen hit double 10 to break for 2-0. But Humphries broke straight back only for Van Veen to do the same again for 3-1.
Humphries hit back with a 110 checkout for 4-2 down. Van Veen missed 110 on 36 for 5-2 but Humphries missed 74 and the Dutchman returned for 5-2.
Van Veen went two away but like yesterday, it is never over until it's over. Humphries missed darts to hold twice and Van Veen was in pole position sat waiting on 52 to go one away. He pinned 57 to seal it.

- Likewise, I have always been a fan of Mervyn and with this worry on his mind, it explains why his form and ranking plummeted. It is really sad to hear this, often chatted to Mervyn and Tracey during the Lakeside days, both are lovely people. It does seem naive not acknowledging the fact it was earnings, surely there must be others in the same situation. - What’s with the dogs element to this story, trying to pull at the heart strings? Just goes to show that being a good dart player does not equate to being that bright. Seriously, ‘I thought you didn’t have to pay tax on winnings’ , your a pro dart player and its your line of work, your not playing the lottery or placing a bet. I think it was Phil Taylor who said you should put a third to one side of all winnings into a bank account, obviously Merv was wearing his earplugs at the time.Mysstree10-03-2025
- The thing is... the folks who "humiliated" Taylor in the Seniors Events never really achieved anything in the important events - like Taylor did. Taylor had/has nothing to prove... and beating Taylor after he had retired is of zero value. Taylor in his prime would have made easy work of all of them. Cheers.MrYnyslas197107-03-2025
