Gian van Veen responsible for highest averages at European Darts Championships

Gian van Veen threw the highest average of the tournament at the European Darts Championship last week. 'GVV The Giant' threw an average of no less than 107.34 per turn in his first round match against Damon Heta (6-1 win).

That average also earned Van Veen an instant record. The performance of the Dutchman was the highest average of a debutant ever at the European Darts Championship. Van Veen took over the record from Phil Taylor, which had stood at 105.98 since 2008.

The second highest average of the tournament was also in the name of a Dutchman. Danny Noppert won 6-0 over Andrew Gilding in the first round thanks to an average of 106.09.

Behind the two Dutchmen follows Madars Razma with an average of 104.92. By the way, that average of the Latvian was not enough for a victory, as he lost that match to Michael van Gerwen. Ricardo Pietreczko (104.28) and Michael van Gerwen (104.12) complete the top five.
