"He showed again what makes him so good" - Ricardo Pietreczko respectful towards Michael van Gerwen after European Championship defeat

Ricardo Pietreczko could look back on a successful debut at the European Darts Championship. 'Pikachu' managed to beat defending champion Ross Smith in the first round of the tournament in Dortmund.

Then Pietreczko faced four-time European Championship winner Michael van Gerwen. The German gave 'Mighty Mike' a hard time, but ultimately could not pull off a shock against the Dutchman.

With a victory at a major tournament in his pocket, Pietreczko could look back on the European Darts Championships with great satisfaction. ''I'm actually quite satisfied with my performance there,'' Pietreczko said on his Facebook page. ''It was a great experience to be on the stage there in Dortmund and I really enjoyed my two matches. Of course I am happy that in my debut match against defending champion Ross Smith I was able to put in such a good performance and thus decide the match in my favour.''

The 29-year-old German was also satisfied with his play in the game against Van Gerwen. ''I didn't do much wrong there, although I can do better than I showed. But Van Gerwen just played very strong, he showed again what makes him so good.''
