Graham Usher, Steve Beaton and Ross Montgomery have become the latest two names to book their spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 World Seniors Darts Championship at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet.
Former PDC Tour Card holder Usher looked completely outmatched in the early stages of his match against three-time World Seniors Tour major winner Leonard Gates. Midway through the second set though, the Englishman seemed to take issue with some of his American opponent's antics on stage, with that added impetus inspiring Usher to produce some of his very best darts, levelling the contest up at 1-1.
Usher then made it five consecutive legs to go 2-0 up in set 3. Although Gates fought back to level the set, it was the Englishman that prevailed in a decider thanks to a 15 darter, staring out his opponent in an intimidating celebration afterwards. Gates wasn't going to go down without a fight though, and kicked off set 4 with back to back legs in 16 and 14. The 'Soulger' was unable to capitalise on the position he'd forged though, and Usher reeled off the next three legs in succession to take the win and set up a semi-final with Derek Coulson, who earlier in the afternoon had ended the reign of defending Seniors World Champion John Henderson.
Elsewhere, Steve Beaton repeated his feat in the final of the 1996 BDO World Championship final by defeating Richie Burnett. Neither player hit their very best form, but in the end an average of 86.93 proved good enough for a relatively comfortable 3-0 victory for the 'Bronzed Adonis'.
Finally, Ross Montgomery completed the semi-final lineup in Purfleet. The Scot defeated compatriot and two-time former world seniors champion Robert Thornton 3-1 to ensure there will be a new name on the trophy later tonight.
