Gurney stole a march early on streaking ahead; but Cross came back to gain the lead and from there, they both earned a well deserved point. It was the former in particular who impressed on the doubles with 6/7; but it wasn't enough to claim the win.
Gurney like alluded to was in supreme form to start the contest off and this was underlined with two early breaks of throw to go 3-0 up which saw 'Superchin' punish. This was case and point with Cross missing tops for a 151 checkout and Gurney hitting double 20 to make it 3-0.
Cross finally got into the contest in style hitting a 121 checkout to break back and within the blink of an eye it went from being 3-0 to 3-3.
It was four legs in a row for 'Voltage'; as he hit double five to move ahead for the first time. Gurney attempted to derail this by stopping the rot to make it 4-4.
Gurney continued to finish well hitting his fifth out of six doubles to go 5-4 ahead but back-to-back maximums saw Cross level up with a break back at 5-5.
Cross seized the initiative from there hitting an 81 checkout to take a share of the spoils but he couldn't claim the victory with Gurney gaining a point.
