Daryl Gurney is safely into the second round of the International Darts Open in Riesa after seeing off German youngster, Fabian Schmutzler in a 6-2 victory on Friday evening.

Gurney wasn’t at his best but didn’t need to be against the German youngster with an 86 average, a high checkout of 100 and his doubling stats being the telling figure with 6/13.

This compared to only 2/8 from Schmutzler. He will now face Damon Heta tomorrow afternoon.

While Vincent van der Voort was ultra impressive as he set up a clash with James Wade after seeing off Adam Gawlas 6-3.

This featured a 103.7 average from 'The Dutch Destroyer' who hit a high checkout of 157 en route to victory.

Gawlas began the tie with a 180 to pressure but Van der Voort fluffed his lines himself and the Czech ace returned to seal an opening break.

Gawlas sat on 65 and Van der Voort replied with a 137 checkout to break back at 1-1. He missed a 146 on double 13 to hold but with Gawlas unable to take out 120, Van der Voort returned for double four and a 2-1 lead.

Gawlas levelled up at 2-2 from there. Van der Voort replied with a blockbuster 157 checkout as he went 3-2 up and the holds continued with the Dutchman going 4-3 up.

Van der Voort pounced on a poor start to Gawlas’ throw with a 179, 134 and 139 back to back en route to breaking throw and going 5-3 up and an 86 checkout saw him seal the deal.

While Madars Razma is set for a tie with defending champion, Joe Cullen who awaits tomorrow evening after the Latvian took care of Wayne Jones in a match dominated by breaks of throw until the very end.

Neither player was missing doubles early on but it was all holds of throw with Razma leading 2-1 early on. But it was Razma who pinned a 75 checkout to continue that doubling prowess and lead 3-1.

Jones broke back immediately. Razma was unable to find the bull from 85 but Jones was wayward on the doubles and Razma went 4-2 up throwing to go one away.

Again he was pegged back but it was another break with a 64 checkout seeing Razma go 5-3 up. On the match went with Jones hitting a 116 checkout to make it 5-4 but with the breaks continuing, the Latvian moved through.
