Florian Hempel reached the second round at the
German Darts Open in Jena, Germany, on Friday night with a surprising win over multiple major winner James Wade.
Hempel produced the first big surprise of the tournament. The German beat Wade with his own weapon, as the German recorded a 75 percent finishing percentage.
A 13-darter, 84 check-out and a 70 finish gave Hempel a 5-2 lead. Wade made it 5-3 with a 101 check-out, but could not prevent Hempel from taking the win with a 115 check-out.
Gurney lived up to his favorite tag against Steve Lennon, although it did not go very easy for 'Superchin'. The Northern Irishman missed many doubles (6/17) but nevertheless managed to qualify for the second round in Jena with a 6-2 victory.
