Nathan Aspinall crowned himself the winner at the 30th edition of the
World Matchplay last Sunday night by dealing with Jonny Clayton (18-6) in the final.
Afterwards, Aspinall said he was inspired by compatriot
Michael Smith. 'The Asp' even revealed that he carries the flights of 'Bullyboy' with him in his dart case.
''Michael Smith got his new darts and I nicked a set off him the other week โ theyโre in my darts case," Aspinall said on the PDC website. "Iโm using that as inspiration, because heโs a guy like me who hasnโt come from much and heโs our World Champion and world number one."
โIโve got Smithyโs flights, a picture of my kids and I look at my case and I see that as inspiration. If Smithy can do it, why canโt I?" Aspinall concludes. โIโve done it now. Itโs not the World Championship, but itโs the next best thing. Iโm buzzing, and Iโm going to enjoy this moment for as long as I can.โ
