Nathan Aspinall crowned himself the winner at the 30th edition of the
World Matchplay last Sunday night by dealing with Jonny Clayton (18-6) in the final.
Afterwards, Aspinall said he was inspired by compatriot
Michael Smith. 'The Asp' even revealed that he carries the flights of 'Bullyboy' with him in his dart case.
''Michael Smith got his new darts and I nicked a set off him the other week – they’re in my darts case," Aspinall said on the PDC website. "I’m using that as inspiration, because he’s a guy like me who hasn’t come from much and he’s our World Champion and world number one."
“I’ve got Smithy’s flights, a picture of my kids and I look at my case and I see that as inspiration. If Smithy can do it, why can’t I?" Aspinall concludes. “I’ve done it now. It’s not the World Championship, but it’s the next best thing. I’m buzzing, and I’m going to enjoy this moment for as long as I can.”
