In an afternoon session which has seen many top seeds fall at the
German Darts Championship, Jonny Clayton and Josh Rock were two of the biggest who won't be into the final day in Hildesheim.
Clayton in particular was sent home by a superb display by
Nico Kurz who has always shown great promise, but is yet to deliver on it in terms of consistent results.
But 'The Ferret' who has not looked the same player since personal issues prevented him from heading to Australia and New Zealand for the World Series continues a poor spell of form. This time he was beaten by a superb bull finish in the decider from Kurz who hit 81 to send the Welshman packing 6-5.
Bunting contends with whistling as Ross Smith sends statement ahead of Euro defence
While
Stephen Bunting had to contend with crowd members whistling while he threw during his win over Josh Rock, but still got over the line in another superb display from the in-form Bullet.
He wrapped it up 6-3 on the bull averaging 101.7 with 55% on the doubles with Russ Bray calling out the whistlers in the crowd saying yeah thanks mate, we all know you can whistle while Bunting was 2-0 up. But it was the St Helens ace who had the last laugh.
As did
Ross Smith who took his spot on the final day. In an afternoon with multiple-ton topping displays, Smith who will defend his European Championship two weeks yesterday sent home Daryl Gurney 6-3.
It was a 102.2 average and three maximums for 'Smudger' who was one of only a few big names to actually make it through to the final day in the end. More to come tonight?
