Chris Dobey can start preparing for the 2025 Premier League Darts campaign. The 34-year-old Englishman made his debut in 2023, was not invited last year, but is now set to return.
Dobey, who was also played one night each in 2019 and 2020 as a challenger, was allowed to compete in the full Premier League Darts for the first time in 2023. That invitation at the time had a lot to do with the fact that he had just won the Masters. Dobey eventually finished seventh in this lucrative competition. This year was a nervy wait for 'Hollywood' to see if he'd get the call. He did not win any major last year, but he was number one over the floor tournaments, winning no less than three Players Championships. Moreover, at the last World Darts Championship, he made it to the semifinals, in which he lost 6-1 to Michael van Gerwen.
Last Monday, the PDC announced the final selection for the 2025 Premier League Darts and Dobey, in addition to Luke Humphries, Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall and Stephen Bunting, was one of the lucky eight. "It's brilliant, I can't thank them (the PDC) enough," Dobey told BBC Radio Newcastle. "You're playing with the elite week-in, week-out in amazing venues and amazing cities. The first time I did it, I loved it and I felt like I belonged there."
Premier League Darts 2025 gets underway on Thursday, Feb. 6, in Belfast. A date that will undoubtedly be circled in red in Dobey's calendar is Thursday, March 27. That is when the eighth day of play is scheduled at Newcastle's Utilita Arena. Newcastle is Dobey's hometown and he is also a very big fan of the local football team. "It's just magnificent being on TV on the big stages every week. The Premier League brought my game on even more and I'm hoping I can produce it regularly on the big stage."
