After seeing multiple seeds tumble,
Jonny Clayton went out and did his job and saw off Gabriel Clemens in a 6-4 win with a 97 average and 46.2% on the doubles at the
European Championship.
Clayton spoke afterwards about the crowd playing a factor and that in reality the scoreline could've been more in the favour of 'The Ferret'.
"It didn't help those difficult doubles, I've got to be honest. But listen I think I was quite comfortable there, missed a few doubles to win it but I done the job in the end. It was difficult against that crowd. One minute they're all behind you and then they're all against you, it's hard," said Clayton to Online Darts.
He spoke about the big names going out and sees it as a chance as he plays Dave Chisnall tonight in a game that he says respect is there but that ultimately he is there to win.
"Nobody goes out to lose, we're there to win and do our job. I see them fall and I think keep going, it's a chance.
"We both respect each other big time. Tomorrow is going to be a different crowd, a different atmosphere. Hopefully the crowd are going to be on my side."
This is part of a potential change in mindset for Clayton who wants to return to the winners' circle and recapture the form that has deserted him.
"We're all chasing titles. I need a kick in the arse. Hopefully this weekend I'll do something. It's easier to be the underdog I don't care what anyone says."
