Damon Heta, known for his immaculate precision and persistence, reflects on a period in which he reassessed his goals and ambitions. In a candid interview, Heta spoke about his mindset, his pursuit of improvement, and the drive to achieve consistent success at the highest level.
“I’ve probably kept the same goals for the last couple of years now,”
Heta tells Sky Sports. “There was one thing I just said at the start of the year. It was at the Masters; it didn't sit right with me. I said I was very content with being a dart player, and life's great, and it doesn't matter if you're winning. Happy for where I am.”
“I just feel that I’m not fully satisfied”
Heta stresses that his earlier contentment doesn’t mean he’s standing still. “It just feels like it doesn't sit right with me. I'm not content,” he says. “Because I work so hard, and I do so much, both inside of darts and outside of darts, just trying to make it better. But I need these results to come so all this hard work pays off."
It’s striking honesty from a player often seen as cool and calculated. Heta admits he’s currently going through a spell of disappointing results. “At the moment, the results aren't flying like I'd like them to be. But it just makes me a bit more hungry and a bit more keen."
“I have a list of goals I want to achieve”
For Heta, it’s not just about the numbers on the scoreboard. "I've got my list of goals. Whether they are results-based or if they're on what I can control. They're all there. They are all written out, and yeah. I've just got to keep focusing on that."
Damon Heta has been Australia’s number one for several years
His approach seems to be paying off.
Heta has shown in recent seasons that he can compete at the very highest level, with impressive performances against some of the best darts players in the world. But he knows this is only the beginning. “Yeah, hopefully it all pulls through at the end," he concludes.
