Luke Littler turned 18 last month and has already captured more than £1 million in prize money over his first year on the PDC Pro Tour. Legendary 16-time world champion Phil Taylor has some advice on how best to handle that money.
If there is one man who knows how to handle so much money it is the legendary Taylor, who won just about everything there was to win in his own darting career. 'The Power' captured an estimated £8.5 million in prize money thanks to his numerous tournament wins. And he has now given Littler some valuable advice, telling him to open two bank accounts to keep an eye on his finances.
"Straight away - keep off social media. Don't bother with it. Let somebody else do it for you. You don't need to read things because it can upset," Taylor tells SportBible. "Make sure you look after your money. Two bank accounts - one in one, and half in another. So that's your tax. That's what I always used to do. Try to start investing your money, so if anything happens, if you fall down and break your arm or something, you've got something to fall back on."
Littler himself hasn't really made any expensive purchases just yet. He has said in the past however that he does want to buy a car in the future. "I've always loved a Mercedes A-Class - just a small car,” Littler explained previously. “Last year, I was looking at driving, and I loved the Ford Focus, but now I’ve gone up in the world just a little! I haven’t had driving lessons yet because it’s been so hectic, but I’m going to have to do it before I get into my twenties when it’ll be too late and I can’t be bothered. If I get a car, it won't be a birthday present from anyone. I think it would have to be a birthday present from me to me.”
