Jermaine Wattimena sent the first seed packing at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship. 'The Machine Gun' very impressively defeated 16th-seeded James Wade 3-0 and will now face the winner of the duel between Peter Wright and Wesley Plaisier after Christmas.

Wattimena, who has been in the form of his life over recent months, reaching the final of the European Championship and having deep runs at both the Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals, stayed just under the 100 average mark in this one, losing only two legs against Wade. He thus confirmed all the good from his opening match at this World Championship, where he had also won with a high average against Stefan Bellmont on opening night.

“I believe I can beat anyone at the moment, so I think I can create some history,” reflected the Dutchman in his post-match press conference afterwards. “I have been playing really well over the last few months, and mentally I think I am a lot stronger than I was a few years ago. I am over the moon with my performance. It was a good day for me, so I am more than happy!”

So good has Wattimena been in recent months that some are considering his as a genuine World Darts Championship contender. According to the man himself though, he's not ready for such hype just yet. "There's a lot of good players who can win the World Championship and I think I'm a good outsider for it. Only an outsider," he insists.

Wattimena now returns home to the Netherlands and will spend the Christmas season with his family. Afterwards, he will return to North London to take on the winner of the duel between Peter Wright and Wesley Plaisier in the third round. "I expect Peter Wright," Wattimena previews honestly. "I think, even with the form that Peter has shown this year, he's not been at his best, but Wesley was not that good today. He's a really good player, but I think Peter because of his experience."
