Connor Scutt delivered a very impressive performance in the opening round of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship. The 28-year-old Englishman confidently dispatched Ben Robb 3-0, posting an average of 101.92. A duel with ninth-seeded Damon Heta now awaits for 'Sniper' in the next round.

Despite not having a PDC Tour Card, Scutt has had a very impressive year in 2024, winning the Challenge Tour, having consistently impressive performances on the Pro Tour when called up and even having a career-best performance in a TV major at the recent Players Championship Finals in Minehead. "I just love playing up on that stage," reflected the Englishman in his post-match press conference. "I have learnt an awful lot from my last two [televised] tournaments, and hopefully I can build on that here.”

Last year, Scutt also won his first round game impressively before falling in round 2. "It's nice to have the first 100-plus average of the tournament!" Scutt continues with a smile, insisting he's a much improved player then twelve months ago as he's set to return to the Pro Tour thanks to his Challenge Tour win. "I'm a much better all around player to be able to perform. I feel like I'm a much better equipped player now, than what I was previously, which I think will stand me a good stead for next year."

As mentioned, in the second round, Scutt will now take on the ninth-seeded Australian number one Damon Heta on Saturday, Dec. 21st. A tie that has extra meaning to Scutt after the pair have been preparing for Ally Pally together. “Me and Damon have been practice partners over the last few weeks," Scutt reveals in conclusion. “It should be a great game. It will be nice to play a friendly face up there."
