"I think we'd make a fantastic pairing" - Aspinall targeting World Cup debut alongside Michael Smith after Matchplay success

Nathan Aspinall has advanced to a career high of fifth in the world rankings thanks to his victory at the World Matchplay.

Aspinall is now, after Michael Smith, the second Englishman in the world rankings. The two highest-ranked players from each country are traditionally invited to the World Cup of Darts, a tournament 'the Asp' is yet to play in during his career.

"I so want to play for England. That's a massive thing," Aspinall said. "I know Michael wants to play with me and I want to play with Smithy. I think we'd make a fantastic pairing. That's definitely a target."

Aspinall therefore knows what he has to do. "I wanted to be in the top 8 by the end of the year. I've done that now so realistically the target has to be top 4. There's no reason why this can be my last tournament win of the year, if anything it should be the first of many!"
