Daryl Gurney, who was called up to the
Masters as a last-minute replacement for Gerwyn Price, made the most of his call-up on Saturday, qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Gurney defeated Joe Cullen in his opening match. "Joe is normally a bogey player for me," Gurney laughed afterwards. "But I'm glad to get through it, get to Sunday and show that I was actually worth turning up and playing. I think I played some quality darts."
The 37-year-old Northern Irishman received a call from the PDC in the middle of this week. "I usually block them because it's usually a DRA fine," Gurney explains. "I was like 'Right, I'll answer this' and yeah, they asked 'do you want to play in the Masters?'"
But what about Gurney's form. "I was actually playing really well in the practice room earlier," he explains. "I thought to myself, 'Right get up and get the show ready."'
'Superchin' will take on Nathan Aspinall in the quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon. 'The Asp' was too strong at the last sixteen with 10-5 to Dirk van Duijvenbode.
