"I'd kind of forgotten how to win a match" - Peter Wright scrapes through at Austrian Darts Open to set up showdown with van Gerwen

Peter Wright successfully secured himself a spot in the third round of the Austrian Darts Open after prevailing in a thriller. 'Snakebite' defeated Danny Lauby 6-5 in the second round.

Having lef 5-2, Wright almost threw away his good position. "I'd kind of forgotten how to win a match," he admits in his post-match interview afterwards. "The last few weeks I lost several matches where I was ahead, luckily today I was able to finish it off. Danny was suffering a lot from the heat in the venue and I've not been feeling very well for a few days. My scoring was definitely fine, but on my doubles, I missed way too many chances."

Wright will take on Michael van Gerwen in the third round. Last Thursday, he went down against his old rival in the quarterfinals on Night 13 of the 2024 Premier League Darts.

"I didn't feel good at all then and yet I owe that defeat to myself, that was really unnecessary. Hopefully after a night's sleep I'll feel a bit better and then it can definitely be a great match," concluded the 54-year-old Scot.
