Michael van Gerwen managed to win a weekly title for the fourth time in this Premier League Darts campaign on Thursday night. He defeated Luke Littler 6-3 in the final. Afterwards, 'Mighty Mike' received the now typical questions about his 17-year-old opponent.
Earlier this week it was announced that Littler had been listed by Forbes, who have complied their prestigious list of the most influential Europeans in sports under the age of 30.
Van Gerwen did not hide his opinion on that. "With all due respect, he hasn’t won anything yet. If people haven’t won anything yet, should they be getting into Forbes?" the Dutchman questioned to Sportsboom.
The three-time world champion also felt that Littler did not play well in Birmingham. "He played crap tonight and I beat him, that’s the reality," came the Dutchman's rather brutal assessment.
In the end, Van Gerwen still complimented his English rival. "He’s obviously done sensational things for the sport, but he will always be the one chasing me," 'MVG' concluded. "He’s around 150 tournaments behind me, I’ll wait for him to catch up."
