The PDC yesterday announced the field of participants for the Dutch Darts Masters, a World Series of Darts tournament taking place in 's Hertogenbosch on Jan. 24 and 25. And that causes needed lifting, not least among former professional darts player Vincent van der Voort.
Eight top players are always represented at World Series of Darts tournaments. In 's Hertogenbosch these are the eight players who are also selected for the Premier League darts: Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross, Stephen Bunting, Gerwyn Price, Chris Dobey and Nathan Aspinall. In addition, there is room for eight 'local' players each time and in this case they are: Danny Noppert, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Gian van Veen, Raymond van Barneveld, Jermaine Wattimena, Kevin Doets and Richard Veenstra. Belgian Van den Bergh completes the eight.
Van der Voort lost his PDC Tour Card after the conclusion of the past World Darts Championship and decided not to attempt at Q-School to regain it immediately. The 49-year-old Dutchman wants to focus this year mainly on the Modus Super Series and his participation in the World Senior Championship. So he is no longer active on the PDC Pro Tour, but still TOTO (the sponsor of the Dutch Darts Masters) wanted to see Van der Voort among the eight Benelux players in 's Hertogenbosch. For the PDC, however, that was not an option because Van der Voort does not have a Tour Card.
"That really doesn't make sense," Van der Voort responded in his podcast Darts Draait Door. Van der Voort points to Fallon Sherrock in particular for that, who was often invited to World Series tournaments in recent years and also did not have a Tour Card. "That's the PDC all over the place. If there is an award given out for talking out of your neck, Matt Porter (CEO of the PDC, ed.) is on the top spot. When you hear him talk, it all sounds like a lot. But in the end it always turns out he's just talking out of his neck."
