Kim Huybrechts wants to compete at this year's
World Cup of Darts again, despite the fact that
Dimitri Van den Bergh indicated last week that he prefers to play alongside
Mike De Decker.
Huybrechts and Van den Bergh have been a regular pair at the World Cup of Darts for several years. At the last edition, however, the feud between the two degenerated in the opening match against Finland, when both Belgians did not give each other even a glance.
After the intervention of Mac Elkin, Van den Bergh's current manager and also Huybrechts' former manager, plus with the mediation of the PDC, the two men then decided to act normally with each other for the rest of the tournament.
But even in the months that followed, they continued to take occasional stabs at each other. Van den Bergh recently indicated that he would rather play alongside Mike De Decker because he has a better relationship with him. Problem: The two spots at the World Cup of Darts go to the two highest-ranked Belgians in the world rankings, and at the moment those are still Van den Bergh and Huybrechts.
"I'm not going to give up my spot anyway," Huybrechts said in conversation with Double Top. "They can say what they want. I also prefer to dart with Ronny (Huybrechts, his brother, ed.) but that's not realistic. If they don't want to throw with me, they will have to give up themselves. Then I'll throw with the number four in the ranking."
'Kim-time'
Huybrechts therefore knows what he has to do. "I'm just going to do my best. 2024 will be a very quiet year for me anyway. Those guys can say what they want, it doesn't hit me in my cold clothes anymore. There have been many attempts to get under my skin in the past, but I'm not going to let them get to me anymore. It's Kim-time and nothing else."
This year's World Cup of Darts will take place from June 27 to 30. Van den Bergh is currently unchallenged as the first Belgian in the world rankings at position 14. Huybrechts is currently 32nd and is some 45000 pounds ahead of No. 39 De Decker.
