"I'm not in the best form" admits Michael van Gerwen after setting up Clayton clash at European Darts Grand Prix

Michael van Gerwen has convincingly qualified for the last sixteen of the European Darts Grand Prix. 'Mighty Mike' was 6-1 too strong for Johan Engström in the second round.

"I had to do something good, I had some good finishing early doors and for me to win games is the most important thing for me. I'm not in the best form in my life but I'm always fighting my own battles. I never give up and I also want to give the crowd 100%. I'm pleased, I'm happy," said Van Gerwen. "I said to myself don't underestimate anyone as I've known this guy for a long time. He's played darts for 18 years."

Van Gerwen won this tournament twice before (2016 and 2018). "This tournament has been here since Day One, for me it's amazing to be back here. I hope everyone is enjoying myself and In can enjoy myself now I've won."

In the last sixteen, Van Gerwen will take on Jonny Clayton on Sunday afternoon. From the Sweet Ferret to the Ferret. "Me and Jonny get on really well. We always have good games. For the crowd that's coming, it's fantastic to watch."
