Luke Humphries has qualified for the last sixteen of the European Darts Grand Prix. 'Cool Hand Luke' defeated Luke Littler 6-5 in the second round.
In a clash of the titans, with both men averaging above 100, it was ultimately Humphries who narrowly prevailed. It is actually the first time since the World Championship final that Humphries has managed to win over Littler, as Humphries had since lost to his younger compatriot six times in a row.
"That record wasn’t something that was playing on my mind," Humphries laughed. "Luke is a fantastic player and in elite level sport, these runs of results can happen, but of course I’m relieved that run is over."
Humphries takes on Stephen Bunting in the next round, against whom he lost last weekend at the International Darts Open. "I never should have lost that match, but I was so tired," Humphries said. "After this weekend I really need a few weeks of rest, but first on finals day I have to be bang on. After all, I want to win this tournament."
