The 2025 World Darts Championship came to an end last Friday with the final between Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen. The 17-year-old Littler crowned himself the youngest world champion ever by defeating his Dutch opponent 7-3 in the final.
So Littler did what he failed to do a year ago in his first World final, after he lost 7-4 to Luke Humphries twelve months prior. In addition to the Sid Waddell Trophy, "The Nuke" also won the Ballon D'Art, which rewards the player who threw the highest number of 180s during the tournament. No one did better than Littler's 76 this year.
Along with the players, the so-called World Referee Championship is also over. Kirk Bevins, Charlie Corstorphine, Huw Ware and George Noble gave their best on stage at Alexandra Palace for three weeks, calling each and every one of the many 180 scores fired in by the darts on the iconic Ally Pally stage.
Quite remarkable in this regard is that Noble, at 56-year-old stalwart of PDC referees, called out a 180 score through the microphone exactly 180 times in his 20 matches during the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.
Notably, the most 180 scores were accounted for by Corstorphine, he got to declare the highest possible score in darts no less than 253 times during 24 matches.
This has been one of my favorite posts after the Worlds for years (partly because it's over now).

It might be the first time a caller called exactly 180 180s in the tournament.
It's been a long few weeks, but (again) it was worth it 🫶#WCDarts #PremDartData pic.twitter.com/CSQ8aoYkz9
