Back in 2022, Luke Humphries won the German Darts Grand Prix. It was his first major tournament victory in the PDC and started the current world champion and world number one on his road to darting domination. On the PDC Europe Facebook channel, 'Cool Hand Luke' looked back on that win and what it meant for his career.
Humphries had won a Players Championship earlier in the year, but his title victory at the German Darts Grand Prix was his first success on a major stage. "It was massive because I think, the first time, when I won in Munich about two and a half years ago, it ended up turning me into this monster of a player that seemed to win everything after that," Humphries recalled. "It was a massive moment for me. It gave me the self-belief that I knew I could be good and I knew I could go and do it on the stage so I think that was the turning point."
Since then, the 29-year-old Englishman has already won five majors and has become the dominant force in the darting world. "I've probably achieved it all to be honest," he says when asked what he wants to achieve in darts. "World champion, World Matchplay champion and World Cup champion was the three. I just want to win as much as I can now. Maybe the Premier League as well because I've not got that one yet."

In addition, of course, every player needs support from family and friends. "I haven't got just one, but I've got my mum and dad, my wife and my brother! They're my four biggest supporters," Humphries notes warmly. "I've got hundreds of people behind that as well."
