Devon Petersen was active on the PDC Pro Tour between 2009 and 2023. Among other things, he participated in the World Darts Championship nine times and was the first African to win a tournament on the European Tour. After losing his Tour Card, the South African has been trying to get more Africans to play darts. Petersen hopes to eventually host a major tournament in Africa.
Petersen recently founded the African Darts Group. With this, he wants to represent the interests of African darters and also ensure that players are given opportunities at the highest level. "My nature is, that even if it's not me succeeding in the sport, we can still succeed as a continent, as a country, as an individual from Africa and we all bear the same flag so as long as that flag waves I don't care who it is," Petersen says to
MDA Events. "The entire position of the African Darts Group and positioning it with the PDC, being the African affiliate, it's now put us on a platform where we can give the international opportunities like the MODUS Super Series, the PDC World Darts Championship and the World Cup of Darts."

"The sport itself is growing at a massive rate and South Africa and Africa has always been left behind, but now, with African Darts Group, moving forward with the development of the sport, we're going to make sure that we see more Africans given an opportunity," continues Petersen. "My challenge is to bring the sport from the UK and take it to South Africa and show them 'You've seen it on TV, you've watched these players all the time, now get to experience it live' and we are in the process of making that happen."
Africa will be represented at the upcoming World Darts Championship by Cameron Carolissen. For the South African it will be his second participation at Alexandra Palace, in 2021 he went down 3-1 in the last 64 against Danny Noppert.
