Joe Cullen is into the World Grand Prix semi-finals for the first time in his career after taking a thrilling 3-2 victory over Michael van Gerwen's conqueror, Chris Dobey.

"It was horrible to play in!" Cullen laughed in his post-match press conference. "But I think it'd have been more horrible if I had to come out on the receiving end of a defeat."

Sealing the win in style, Cullen fired in a sublime 121 checkout to break Dobey's heart. "Chris is a great lad and it's one of those where the emotion takes over, especially with a big big shot like that," says 'the Rockstar'. "It was flith. It was Jonny Clayton esque."

A former Masters winner and Premier League finalist, Cullen had never previously made it this far in the unique double-start tournament. With Luke Humphries awaiting in the semi-finals, can Cullen now go all the way?

"With the double start it's all about getting away. I know it's so cliche to say but it really is. If you can get away first dart the majority of the time, you put your opponent under a lot of pressure."
