Joe Cullen is the final player through to the semi-finals of the 2023
World Grand Prix after a 3-2 sets win over Chris Dobey in what is a maiden one in the double start format.
Cullen produced an utterly sublime 121 checkout, with Dobey ready to send it to a final leg after the brilliant start from 'The Rockstar' was erased with 'Hollywood' coming back to send it all the way. But now Luke Humphries awaits in the second semi-final tomorrow.
Cullen missed a chance to break but Dobey missed double 16 for 112 allowing the former back for double eight. He doubled up to go one away from the opening set. Dobey missed 152 for a foothold in the set and Cullen hit double 14 for 1-0 in sets.
Dobey nearly busted his score but got a leg on the board and broke for 2-1 on double 20. He sealed the set with an 84 checkout.
Dobey missed bull for a 90 checkout but returned with Cullen unable to find 142 and hit double eight to level. Dobey led for the first time with a 90 checkout. He led 2-1 in sets on double 10.
Dobey missed 156 to level at 1-1 in the next set and Cullen hit a 10-darter on double six as he went 2-0 up. Dobey missed 111 for a break and Cullen missed 148 for the set. Dobey then returned to break for 2-1 down but Cullen sent it the distance.
Dobey missed 60 for the opening leg of the decider, but Cullen couldn’t take advantage and Dobey hit double 10. Cullen missed 130 to level up, but with Dobey way back, he took aim and made it 1-1.
Dobey failed to get in straight away and Cullen took a break to go one away. Dobey was sat on double 20 and Cullen thumped in 121 on the bull.
