Luke Humphries' revival at the recent European Darts Trophy provided a pretty familiar tale as he was dumped out by Nathan Aspinall in the Quarter-Finals as he lamented his recent issues on the stage.
Humphries has struggled for form in March after three consecutive Quarter-Final exits in the Premier League. This continued into the European Tour where he was beaten by Nathan Aspinall 6-1.
Aspinall went on to win the title but the only real solace for Humphries was that he managed to seal the early win over Boris Krcmar. But he spoke afterwards to PDCTV on stage and lamented his recent issues.
He said that his last few years have been going much better which gives him a real sense of frustration that it cannot go down the same lines this time around. He is buoyed by this though and said that he wants to get back to his best and prove that he can do it.
He will soon be under threat in the not too distant future by Luke Littler for the World No.1 spot with The Nuke likely to breathing down his neck and albeit with him still winning major titles, it doesn't signal warning bells but in his own mind he won't be pleased with his current run of form.
He has time to turn it around though heading into a pivotal juncture of the season and no doubt will all be a distant memory if he manages to do so.
“It’s frustrating for myself, I come up here feeling really good but it’s just not happening.
“I’ve only won one big stage title this year [so far], the last few years it’s been going better than that.
“Losing in the first-round last week or two weeks ago was a little bit disappointing. I want to prove something for myself.”
