Here's how the Premier League table shapes up after Night 4️⃣...
Since 2022, Premier League Darts has been played in its current format where every match day is played in a mini-tournament form starting from the quarter-finals.
Previously, each player had to compete only once per game day. Halfway through, two players would drop out and at the end, the top four players in the standings would advance to the playoffs. "It's a little boring, isn't it? There's a lot of repetition, although I can understand why the PDC doesn't change it right away after one or two years. I always liked it more before," Ron Meulenkamp told Viaplay.
"Maybe they'll come up with something else after this. I think they're figuring out what's best. Still, it's a shame it's so monotonous now."
"You get super many finals now between people in shape, unless they've faced each other before. The same names every time, eight players thrown into a pot and then against each other every time. It's a shame, because there's too much repetition like that."
Nevertheless, Meulenkamp does still enjoy the matches. "There is really beautiful darts being played though. We have seen nights in terms of level and entourage, which was really unprecedented."
Meulenkamp is also quite pleased with the field of participants. "You used to have real icons playing in the Premier League. That went away for a while, but now that's coming back. Think of Luke Littler doing a fantastic job or a Michael van Gerwen who is always an icon as far as I'm concerned, but also Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith I think are great guys to watch."
"Those just have a bit of charisma about them. In that respect they do have the right players, but the format could still be looked at I think."
