Ross Smith averaged just under a ton as he saw off European Tour debutant, Jani Laurila 6-3 to set up a tie with reigning champion, Luke Humphries.
Smith hit seven 180's to kick off his campaign averaging 99 and boasting a 60% checkout percentage albeit admitting that he hasn't felt his best this week.
“Fair play to Jani, he played really well, especially on his debut,” reflected Smith.
“I was chatting to him before the game and he’s a really nice guy. His finishing was fantastic. I’m sure we will see a lot more of him.
“I’ve not been feeling great this week, but I will take that performance any day and I’m confident going into tomorrow now.”
