José De Sousa lost 6-5 to eventual winner Ryan Joyce in the quarter-finals of the 26th Players Championship of the year.
In the last 64, however, a remarkable incident played out. In it, De Sousa faced Rusty-Jake Rodriguez. With his first three arrows, the Portuguese managed the curious score of zero.
Not for the first time in his career, 'the Special One' has left fans perplexed. “What happened???” asked one follower online. A second fan commented: “Probably all 3 darts bounced out.” Another fan referred to the Grand Slam of Darts a few years ago (where De Sousa threw a 120-finish with three times tops). "Probably tried to start with 3 tops and left them all on the top wire.”
That zero score did not stop De Sousa from winning the match 6-5. After wins against Jim Williams and Keane Barry as well, "The Special One" before going down 6-5 against Ryan Joyce in the aforementioned quarter-final.
