Boris Koltsov has claimed his first win on the Alexandra Palace stage in style seeing off Jermaine Wattimena in a 3-0 sets win with another Dutchman in his sights next in Dirk van Duijvenbode at the PDC
World Darts Championship.
Koltsov was animated throughout with some brilliant celebrations leading to Wattimena refusing the handshake at the end looking dejected at losing the tie but for 'The Viking', it was three 180's and two ton plus checkouts (130 and 121) in a quality display.
Koltsov began with a 130 checkout as he looked towards his first win on the Ally Pally stage. Wattimena replied straight away with a 57 checkout to make it 1-1.
A break from 'The Viking' saw Koltsov take the first set 3-1 and it was another to begin the second set.
Wattimena replied surviving pressure in the form of a 180 from Koltsov and he was throwing for a 2-1 lead.
Koltsov attempted to rile the crowd up only for Wattimena to miss a 164 on the bull. But two darts were missed for the hold and Koltsov broke.
He missed two set darts but got another shot with Wattimena unable to take advantage. He had three at double 18 and drifted into the one.
Koltsov came back again though with Wattimena continuing to falter and 'The Viking' pinned it on double 16.
Wattimena busted 121 allowing Koltsov to return to hold on double five. The Russian showed him how to do it smashing in 121 on the bull for a 2-0 lead.
He left 40 from 136 and with Wattimena unable to take out 140. Koltsov composed himself but missed three match darts looking for his first Ally Pally win.
Wattimena pinned double 10 to hold leaving it to Koltsov to serve it out. The former missed 104 for the set but another match dart came and went for Koltsov.
Wattimena missed two more for the set splitting 18. Koltsov pinned double 10 first time to claim the win.
