Leonard Gates wins CDC Tour 8 and is in pole position for Alexandra Palace return

The eighth tournament of the 2024 CDC Tour was won last Sunday by Leonard Gates. This title also puts "The Soulger" well on course for a return to the PDC World Darts Championship, but there are still a number of tournaments to play.

Gates lost only four legs in his first four matches. He defeated Clayanna Brandon (5-0) and Albert Anstey (5-0) in the first two rounds without losing a single leg. That was followed by victories over Jack Robinson (6-2) and Adam Sevada (6-2).
Starting in the semifinals, the opposition increased sharply. Gates fell behind 2-1 in the semifinals against Jeff Springer, but then took a 6-2 lead. Springer then came back to 6-6, before Gates decided the match with a 15-darter. In the final, Alex Spellman was the opponent. After six legs the score was still 3-3, but then Spellman could not keep up with his compatriot scoring. Gates took a 5-3 lead with a 13-darter and a 14-darter, before finishing with a 71 finish and a 127 check-out.
The CDC circuit in 2024 consists of 14 tournaments, eight of which have now been played. The best Canadian and best American on the CDC Order of Merit will receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship. Currently, David Cameron leads the list with 72 points, while Jacob Taylor is the second Canadian with 45 points. Leonard Gates is now the highest-ranked American with 69 points. He is currently seven points ahead of compatriot Stowe Buntz.

- I loved Jan and loved his walk on music "Explode" by Jordan & Baker. I think if he stuck around the BDO he definitely would have been World Champion, should have won in 2014, he never really showed any of his talent in the PDC. I remembered he worked in a bank or in finance and maybe that was his priority, he was also a fan and interested in magic. Definitely should have achieved much more in darts than he did. - This is exactly what I mean,littler survives the 1st round,I think you'll find a lot of other players did. Can you just report on the real sport,and not just 1 person. I like Luke,but this is getting boring now,as Kevin painter once said to Taylor!! The sport is about every player,not 1 who everyone seems to have put the sport on the map.,which he hasn't,he's just got in when the money is massive.
